In the professional world, first impressions matter, and your headshot is often the first encounter others have with you. Whether you’re updating your LinkedIn profile, creating a portfolio, or simply enhancing your personal brand, a well-crafted headshot can speak volumes. This guide covers practical tips for men booking professional headshots in Tallahassee. Take these steps into consideration to help ensure your professional headshot session with Craft Creek Photography goes perfectly.
1. Wardrobe Matters: Choose clothing that reflects your professional persona. Stick to classic, solid colors to ensure a timeless look. Avoid patterns or overly casual attire unless it aligns with your industry. Some guys like to wear a suit or a sports coat, some don’t. It’s your own personal brand, so you get to decide.
2. Grooming Is Key: Schedule a haircut a few days before your photo session, ensuring a fresh and polished appearance. Trim facial hair neatly, and moisturize your skin to achieve a healthy glow. A well-groomed look translates to a confident and put-together image. Our camera gear is super sharp, so if you are someone who shaves, make sure to do so on the day of your shoot.
3. Mind Your Posture: Stand tall and confident. Maintain good posture to convey strength and professionalism. Avoid slouching or crossing your arms, as these can project a closed-off or disinterested demeanor. Unless you are in real estate or a lawyer, of course. We’ll help guide you through our posing process for men.
4. Choose the Right Background: Opt for a clean and simple background that doesn’t distract from your face. Neutral colors or blurred backgrounds work well to keep the focus on you. Avoid busy patterns or clutter that can divert attention. At Craft Creek Photography, we provide a wide array of backdrop options (white, off-white, black, gray, and mocha). We can also shoot headshots outdoors or in your business setting.
5. Express Yourself Naturally: Capture genuine expressions that convey approachability and authenticity. Smile naturally, and don’t be afraid to show a range of emotions. Your headshot should reflect the real you. It does help to practice in the mirror. You shouldn’t need to overthink your smile, but practicing your smile in the mirror will help you achieve the look you are going for with your headshots.
6. Eye Contact Is Powerful: Maintain strong eye contact with the camera. This builds a connection with the viewer and exudes confidence. Avoid looking away or appearing distracted.
7. Work with a Professional Photographer: Invest in a professional photographer who specializes in headshots. Here at Craft Creek Photography, our expertise in lighting, composition, and posing can make a significant difference in the final result. See our professional headshots page for session formats in Tallahassee, then contact us for a quote.
8. Bring Out Your Personality: Consider incorporating props or accessories that reflect your personality or profession. This can add a unique touch to your headshots and make them more memorable. This is not necessary, but an option if you would like to include a prop.
9. Review and Select: After the photo session, we’ll provide you with a link to review all the photos from your session. Choose images that align with your professional goals, and we’ll take care of editing.
Conclusion: Mastering the art of professional headshots for men involves a combination of grooming, styling, and choosing the right photographer. By following these best practices, you’ll be well on your way to creating headshots that not only showcase your professional image but also leave a lasting impact on those who view them. Remember, your headshot is a powerful tool in your personal branding toolkit—make it count!
